Counting Crows (Kahti Appelt)

Happy Labor Day, everyone! For our book today, we chose Counting Crows, written by Kahti Appelt and illustrated by Rob Dunlavey. This is a fun and different counting books that focuses on a flock of crows who are full of personality. The counting focuses mainly on groups of three, counting from one to twelve, and told in rhyming text.

To be frank, while I liked this book, JJ was less enthused. Where I found the trichromatic drawings adorable and funny, they didn’t hold a one-year-old’s interest as much as brightly colored illustrations might have. And while I thought that counting in threes was fun and different, JJ lacked the patience for counting the little crows. So maybe this would not be the best book for a very young baby bookworm, I’m sure that older readers would love it, especially those working on counting by threes!
