Top 5: Friendship

top

Hello, friends! As we wrap up 2016, we wanted to compile of few lists of some of our favorite books that JJ and I have read together this year. So every Saturday in the month of December, we’ll be posting a new “Top 5” list centered around a theme we’ve explored in our literary adventures. To start us off, this week’s Top 5 theme is Friendship. So, in no particular order, here are our five favorite friend books from 2016:

1. Cat & Bunny (Mary Lundquist)

An adorable book about two best friends inviting more friends into their circle. Addresses the common problem of feeling jealous of our friends’ other friendships with gentle, adorable illustrations and sweet story.

2. To The Sea (Cale Atkinson)

A small yet epic story of a very strange friendship that will warm your heart and possibly leave you a little teary-eyed. The devotion that the boy and the whale have for each other is a wonderful example of true friendship, and sends the great message that no matter who you are, there is a perfect friend for you (even if they’re a whale).

3. Boy + Bot (Ame Dyckman)

We loved this book so much that we added it to our library! It’s a sweet, simple story of two friends that is equal parts silly and touching. The illustrations are bright and bold, and the heartwarming friendship between Boy and Bot will put you and your baby bookworm in a  great mood.

4. Strictly No Elephants (Lisa Mantchev)

A great book about true friendship, and sticking by friends who are unfairly excluded or discriminated against. The illustrations are positively precious and will make you fall in love with the miniature elephant, but the message that true friends always stick together is what will stay with you.

5. Stick And Stone (Beth Ferry & Tom Lichtenheld)

Another adorable book about best friends “stick”-ing (sorry) by each other at all costs. Sweet illustrations that bring the two friends to life, an adventurous tale about loyalty, and a great length for baby bookworms.

That’s it for our first Top 5 list! Tell us what you think! What were your favorite books about friendship this year? And come back next Saturday for a new Top 5 list. Have a great weekend!

Stick And Stone (Beth Ferry & Tom Lichtenheld)

Hello, everyone! Today, we read Stick And Stone by Beth Ferry and Tom Lichtenheld, a positively charming book about best friends.

Stick and Stone are alone. Then one day, Stick sticks up for Stone when Pinecone teases him, and the two become fast friends. While the two are hanging out at the beach, a hurricane comes through and blows Stick away! Will Stone be able to find and help his friend the way that Stick helped him?

This was an incredibly sweet and delightful story. The rhymes are fun to read, and the length is great, but we liked the message about friendship and loyalty the best. The illustrations are just adorable, too. We loved this one! Baby Bookworm approved!
